Cross-Dressing?

If women are allowed to wear blazers, trousers, and shirts, why are men not allowed to wear skirts and dresses?

its not a question of 'allowing' ...i mean look at the Scottish...its just a matter of choice.
in quite a few societies even in our country men wear 'skirts'
like the loongi

Ah! well they don't wear it, not our problem is it ;)

If they like... they can always! no judgment is passed based on the clothes men wear, though I did expect my guy to be normally dressed ;)

who's to allow or disallow...
If a thousand men decided to go about their day in a skirt and pink top one day...yea there may be a few sniggers...but haven't u ever sniggered at a girls clothes..
people will soon get used to it...

how hard we humans try na to explain away everything...
lol..its absurd...
when will we let well enuff be alone!

i guess i would burst into a guffaw if a guy wore a skirt and passed by!

nahi plz..acha hai they cant wear :P

Some day they will.
Many will laugh. Then protest. And then it will be fashionable.

But there's a factor of convenience here, you see.
Can a male feel convenient in a skirt?

U see warriors and some other groups of people in a skirt.... The "modern man" doesn't wear a skirt yeah, but u can't say that is the way it will come back. It could. Isn't it old fashion that is slowly coming back in vogue?

n yeah.. do we know if skirts was originally a woman's attire..I'm not so sure...In these epic movies, mahabarath and so on u find so many men in skirts!

RADhika said...

They are allowed, but the thing is they are not as courageous as we are, you knw!
Plus, they deny this fact and go on to say that these things are too girly!! in that case, why do they like women wearing these things with 'pinky' perfumes!! :D

@ the keeper, ya they do. The scottish ones look more like a skirt than the loongi. I was wondering why can't we all just wear the same things?

@ Veens, aha! So you would have passed judgment if your guy would have worn a skirt.

@ Vitruvian, I wonder then if someone had burst out into a guffaw the first time a woman had worn trousers and walked out!

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi, where are these men? Are they normal men walking the streets and working around you?

@ Mel,!!!! Did not expect you to say that!! Almost sounds amusing to me!

@ Cloud, haha!! Do you think that if a man "wished" to wear a skirt, his friends and family would let him?

Solitaire said...

@ divya, why? U do not want to share ur wardrobe is it?

@ Alok, why not? What's there to not feel comfortable in a skirt? Don't men feel comfortable in a loongi?

@ Pavi, I do not know what original attires were. From these old age movies like Pride and Prejudice, I am guessing that women only wore dresses and men trousers. Wonder when all those fashions will come back. I hope they don't!

Solitaire said...

@ Radhika, haha! This is funny!

Pavi!!!! said...

@ soliare... LOL !.. Hell, yeah..I don't want my male friends or hubby competing with me when i'm trying to pick the Best skirt from the store ;-)

PS: i sooooooo badly feel like wearing a skirt now ..Darn the winter!

@ Solitaire

Forgive me if this sounds too stupid, especially because I've never worn a loongi or a skirt myself.

When I answered, I was only considering short skirts. As you might know, most men have extremely hairy and unshapely legs. If a male is conscious of this, given a choice, he would prefer to hide it from view, and hence it is convenient to wear trousers.

Now in countries like Scotland men stop being conscious of their legs, so they find it okay to wear those skirt-like garments.

i was about to say Duh...but then youd probably dont know...Yes I do speak Malay. :)

okay...there is NO WAY...men should be allowed to wear skirts and dresses. :) its geographically and anatomically incorrect.

It's not that men are not allowed to, its just that it will be a drastic change and no man would risk the negative publicity they would get if they attempted.

On a side note, maybe you can have a new post on your blog to ask about the different rules that apply to men and women when it comes to baring one's chest :)

cause women wants to be like a men.. so they wore it.. and we dont want to be like a women so we didnt wear it.. as simple as that... hahaha :) copy cat..

But they do wear loonngi right in the night, which is quite similar to skirts :))))

LOL>......

We wont mind .... and certainly ;boyz would do:-)))

I won't.. then well he won't be my guy.. would he?

well I did make exceptions.. if he did look exceptionally cute in it :)

anything for a sweet heart ;)

Haha...I agree with some here...its not that they are not 'allowed' per se. I think some men find it embarrassing, and to some extent, even degrading to be seen in women's attire. And then there are some who proudly don them ;)

ceedy said...

do you really want to see those hairy legs from under a skirt, pounting beer bellies from crop tops, man boobies under spagheti tops, raised skirts cause someone is excited.........

seriously why dont we all just dress sexy and suave.....and appreciate each other

aneri_masi said...

Oh its allowed, and frowned upon by some, I guess just because it is not the norm. I live in the San Fran Bay Area, and have actually seen some very "pretty" guys with lipstick, high heels and painted toe nails walking around the malls. He didn't look bad at all, still turned a few heads, coz its so unusual :) SF mein tow its totally "anything-goes" philosophy.

Solitaire said...

@ Pavi, hang in there..just a couple more months.

@ Alok, maybe men should also tend to their legs like women and voila..they will look good in skirts!

@ Ghost, geographically incorrect?

@ Cosmic, bearing one's chest huh..Maybe the next question will be about that.

Solitaire said...

@ Gaurav, flattering yourself eh?

@ Keshi! Really? Can you post a picture up?

@ Ashu, these other men think that men's hairy legs will look bad in a skirt. But I dont think they care about their legs when they wear a loongi!!

Solitaire said...

@ Chakoli, :)

@ Veens, good girl!

@ Carolinagal, so mean of them to find our clothes degrading!

@ Ceedy, I don't mind all that! It will become the norm, won't it?

@ Aneri, wow! I want to see something like that too.

The Keeper of the Keys said...

then that'd be compulsion and no longer a matter of choice

Maybe they will look good.
But it's more convenient for them to wear trousers and hide legs than shave (or wax) them and then wear skirts.

Now those who would purposefully want to don skirts would want to look good and hence shave legs. But others will rather wear trousers.

But, as I said, some day it will be a fashion. Then men won't consider it a burden to keep their legs in shape. Not now.

ceedy said...

yeah i guess you are right....once it is a norm - it wont bother...

also forgot to add yesterday...i think the roots of these are deeper....like society in general has created this bias...

again i know of someone very close....who cross dresses and videos and photographs himself in pvt to share it with similar minded ppl online....just makes him happy...(tho he does not know that i have found out - for me it does not matter - but dunno how he will feel)

Solitaire said...

@ Alok, But people who wear loongis and fold them and unfold them don't necessarily shave their legs or worry abt the shape. Men don't do that when they wear shorts! So why would we expect them to do that when they wear skirts?

@ the keeper, how?

@ Ceedy, I know someone like that too!! Do we know the same person..hmmmm?

The Keeper of the Keys said...

to quote you
@ the keeper, ya they do. The scottish ones look more like a skirt than the loongi. I was wondering why can't we all just wear the same things?

and then i said what i did.
I mean if a man/woman is comfy in jeans why force them into skirts?
I, for myself, have these 'skirt days', and then these 'trouser days'

Solitaire said...

@ the keeper, oh I see. My point is it could be a choice, yeah. But I think when it comes to most men around the world, they don't even have a choice. At least stores sell skirts and trousers for women. They don't sell skirts and trousers for men, though!

Hey!
I asked my Dad that.. :) he was like "Look, bagpipers do!" hehe!!

nice blog yaar

women wear blazers trousers and all , but the way trousers are made , they are really made for men ( keeping thier make up in mind)

i guess men dont wear skirts (thank god) for the same reason
