Men's Day?

There is a Children's Day, Women's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Teacher's Day, Valentine's Day, so on and so forth. Why is there no Men's Day?

I think its because they haven't yet complained about being neglected, battered, there have been no men's rights movements, they are not considered to be oppressed, etc? I suppose everyone thinks "men have it good", nothing wrong in their lives...summin like that?

oh, i'd love to celebrate a men's day.
and i'm sure the men will love it too.
frankly, sometimes i find all the 'bias' towards women a tad embarassing.

@ Neeku, I don't know about your argument. I would argue for an Asian Day if there was was a "Black Day" but why are men not arguing for a "Men's Day" when there is a "Women's Day".

@ Aneri, and I think they have not been complaining because they have not (YET) been neglected.

@ The keeper, If we don't get the importance, we are not happy. If we do, we are embarrassed. Maybe, they are right. Women are not easily satisfied. :D

@ Vandita, you should have asked him the question yourself. Did he have any ideas?

@ Ghost, gifts??? What made you think you would get gifts? Did you gift any woman anything on Women's Day?

Cause every other day is a man's day...?

Well, ever since the existence of humans, men have NEVER been under-appreciated. Women, parents, teachers etc are under-appreciated a lot more. So there are these special days created to celebrate women, parents etc.

p.s. I don't remember there being a 'Children's' day..

Solitaire said...

@ Deepali, every "other" day? I would say everyday!!

@ Carolinagal, dont you remember 14th nov as Children's Day? We never had classes, the teachers always used to do performances for us on stage, we had "free dress" and got icecream to eat!!

Children's Day , Teacher's day is okay..it celebrates, children and a profession.
Mother's Day , Father's Day - makes sense for mabbe the western world. They move out of their home at a young age and start living away from parents at a much younger age! Not India, where traditionally we stay with out parents for longer durations.

Anywez I'm not a believer in any of these days :V-day, Mother's day, father's Day, women's day

n yeah...why is there No men's day? Before i say 'coz everyday belongs to them...I would ask who founded women's day? a woman or man?

Rho Tau GWIS said...

Solitaire, for the life of me I can't remember Children's Day!! I do remember the 'free dress' part, but still can't recall any teachers doing any performances :(

Apparently father's day covers this part too. Besides, the conversation I had couple of days back with some of my friends - girls, ended up like this. As it is it is a man's world, now you want to celebrate your domination?

I was speechless. I was saddened how long are girls going to talk about this?

But I like what you wrote - devil's advocate. Thank you mate.

Cause they are bad at remembering dates?

Lol.

You are looking at the wrong Calendar lady. You should looking at a Sporting Calendar to find not one but many Men's day celebrated all throughout the year.

Whenever therez a game of Cricket, Soccer, Rugby etc etc.. It automatically becomes a Mens Day. Women folks are strictly prohibited from mens territory on such days ;-)

Because everyday is our day. He, he, he *lol* And we are the ones who declare those days. Just kidding. God bless.

somebody just said men are not yet neglected? hello, i feel neglected every now-n-then. children's day is ok as they must feel important. but i don't like the idea of either women's day(do we look at them with respect only once an year?), valentine's day(do we love our lover/spouse only once an year?) or any other day.

dunno - call hallmark - one more reason for them to cut down trees and make more money

@ Carolinagal, reallllllllllllly? I still remember this awesome puppet show that they did when we were in the 9th std. It was great. Ms. Contractor was a hit. And Ms. Ramamurthy always did a dance performance.

@ Aneri, she knows! She was in my school in India!!!!

@ Pavi, United Nations started that holiday. Now within the UN if it was a man or a woman, I do not know.

@ Keshi, you are right about that!

@ J, reallllllllllllllllllllllly?

@ Gangsta, girls will talk like this until they feel that they have an equal right and voice in the world.

Solitaire said...

@ Sweetsticky, OMG!! Great answer!

@ Parikrama, groan!

@ Geet, look above and read Gangsta's comment.

@ Ghost, awww..

@ Knatchbulley, uh oh! Are you trying to open another can of worms?

Solitaire said...

@ Mel, no actually you are right!

@ Satish Bolla, once again, these days are not for you to respect women once a year but as a reminder for you to do so all around the year.

@ Ceedy, actually we need to call UN for this.

@ Divya, yeah!! Let them struggle a bit eh?

Solitaire said...

@ clouds, awww what did they do for you to think that way?

@ Chakoli, and yet did you get any gifts on Women's Day?

Without Prejudice:
In reality,
A day is dedicated to a particular person or a community only when there have been injustice with them or their existence is neglected or their survival or their deeds are forgotten..or something uncommon happened that particular day..
However when it comes to men it is not applicable to them because their existence was never challenged, neither were they ever neglected (Being a majority in society) and also their deeds were always appreciated by fellow mates.
So men dont need a mens day as everyday is a mens day .. (I know last phrasal idiom sounded like queerer MCP) LOL..
TAKE CARE..

Pavi!!!! said...

hahahah.. I love Sweetsticky's ans too!She shld hv commented on this post sooner..we all have been breaking our heads over nothing :D

on an honest note... barring these few (non-men) days that you listed, all other days belong to men.
just think about it!

i hate it when i tell girls not to be by themselves especially late in the night. not to walk lonely lanes. do not drive back alone. avoid being decked-up (read yourself) when in doubt.

just think about it... women are not free to be what they want to be, to do what they want to do.
we celebrate independence days of our countries well. i think that as a mark of protest women should not be a part of these celebrations. why cannot a woman walk a lonely lane @ 3 am all by herself in a free country???

M i late for to comment on this post??

This reminded me....Was just listening to the radio on Women's Day when RJ stated that there is AN International Men's Day on 19th November. Noone knows coz even men dont care abt the fact that they have a day like tht. :D....
