What's the worst thing about being married?

Those who say its bliss..let's get realistic here. Everything has its best and its worst.

I hv never been married so this ans is coming purely from my observations of other ppl's marriages and my single life.

**What's the worst thing about being married?

IMO there can be more than just one WORST thing abt being married. So here's my list:

-You have to always think about doing things TOGETHER (u sort of lose the freedom of doing whatever u want whenever u want)

-Being married to someone u dun love and vice versa (yes that can happen!)

-Not being able to flirt to your heart's desire w.o. having to put up with Jealousy fits and dirty looks!

-Having to think about birth control shit (pull n pray lol!)

-If things turn out real bad, some nasty husbands/wives can play it REAL tough when wanting a Separation/Divorce. (similar thing is happening to one of my friends right now and he's in hell at the moment - cos she's not giving him the divorce!)

-Having to use 'Not tonight hunny' line'! I mean who bloody cares about that line when ur single??

-Having to be extra careful with ur expenses just cos ur no longer single! (*urrrrrrrg!*)

-Having to be on a constant vigil just to stroke the Male ego! (*to get things done ofcourse*)

-The need to cook something different everyday just cos there's a man at the table. I mean when ur single u can even eat Vegemite toast in a row for one whole week!

-Having to deal with disgusting farts, burps, snoring, wet towels on the floor and toilet-seat issues!

-Having to please someone all the time. I mean I'd just like to be myself 24/7 if possible! (*eat garlic bread and not worry abt him smelling it and going ewww!*)

-Having to vaccum around hairy legs resting on the carpet while watching Sports 24/7!

-HAVING AN EXTRA PERSON TO ARGUE WITH! I dun need that in my life cos there r enough ppl tearing my hair out right now. LOL!

-Having to deal with his massive perving and still try to love him cos 'cmon all men r like that', duh!

Will think of some more later on...nice one Sol!

The worst part... ummm...

May be the responsibilities which really make u vulnerable!!!

Saim said...

having to shr urself wid sum1 but cum 2 thnk of it, tht's probably d best thing abt marriage as well...did i make any sense???
probably not...wel @least i hv d xcuse of not being married yet:D

Solitaire said...

@ HAHA Keshi.

I think an intercontinental marriage might suit you best.

These days there are stories of many couples who have their own houses and apartments "to minimize conflicts" and are perfectly happy with that.

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

What sorta responsibilities?

The fact that have to make sure that you don't leave the toilet seat up everytime you use the restroom or something else?

Solitaire said...

@ Comfortably numb,

No sense at all! I am confused now...

Do you want to get married or you don't want to?

Unknown said...

Hahahaha...
not qualified to answer this question...

Solitaire said...

@ Iceman,

You mean you have NO assumptions? Come on...I am sure you have some observations at least!

Tuhin said...

u can't do the "10 things" u can do while you are single ;)

Ankur said...

@Sneha

**The fact that have to make sure that you don't leave the toilet seat up everytime you use the restroom or something else?

shucks... looks like u havent read my 10 secrets!!
i hate dirty toilets and specially when ppl dont lift the seat up!!

but i was talking abt responsibilites which are related to work and daily life!!

Cheers!!!

Ankur said...

@Keshi

u can actually do a Phd!!!

Dr Keshi, specialized in worse excuses y not to get married!!!
lolzzzzz

Keshi said...

**I think an intercontinental marriage might suit you best.

haha!

**These days there are stories of many couples who have their own houses and apartments "to minimize conflicts" and are perfectly happy with that.

Then why do they get married in the first place? Just to hv the MARRIED tag?

*rolling eyes*

Keshi.

Cinderella said...

I totally agree to Keshi's 3rd point !

You just cant eye candy anymore. And have to say no when nice hot guys approach you..and thats been happening to me since 10th grade - I missed out all the fun man !!!!!!!!!!!!

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi,

I guess they want to have kids and some ppl are really strict about not having kids out of wedlock.

Maybe they want the best of both worlds...being single and married!

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

I am talking about leaving the toilet seat up and not lifting the toilet seat up!

Yikes!!

Solitaire said...

@ Cinderella,

How did you become a jal pari? Sab kuch blue blue lag raha hai.

Your statement makes it look like you have been MARRIED since tenth grade!

Solitaire said...

@ Tuhin,

10 things?? Hmmmm.
you wanted us to get curious, didn't you?

Unknown said...

Well.. Observations are fine... I have plenty.. but i would not make any assumptions or judgment based on those... I'd rather let them satay as they r...

And when u assume things .. u r in trouble...
ASS-U-ME... when I assume.. I am making an ass out of myself and u... so never assume...

Ankur said...

@Sneha

hahhaha

Keshi said...

since 10th grade Cindy? awwwww...thats been very harsh on urself woman!

Keshi.

Keshi said...

Sol..

**I guess they want to have kids and some ppl are really strict about not having kids out of wedlock.

I u'stand that. But then they can hv kids together but not share assets together?

Keshi.

Solitaire said...

@ Iceman,

How about presume?

That is quite a wise statement you make there but more often than not we tend to pass judgment on people who are in situations that we have never been in.

"OMG! She is marrying THAT guy. He is so ugly."

"OMG! A divorcee!! Is he desperate to marry HER?"

"She is a housewife!? Must be lazy."

etc...etc...

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Seeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

not even married and already miscommunication!!

Can a man and a woman ever see eye to eye?

Unknown said...

For moi.. it's the space. my space and my time.

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi,

Maybe they want to but are afraid that they might end up having a divorce...so "let's play it safe honey....you live in Chicago and I live in New York!"

Meanwhile, the guy can do whatever he wants with the toilet seat and the girl can eat cheese toast everyday and not care!

Keshi said...

Iceman so I assumed? And nah Im not afraid to assume in this case.

Cos Sol asked Single ppl to ASSUME here

**Those who are not married yet...just go ahead and tell us what you assume is the worst.

Besides, why be so afraid to look at someone's life and make a statement? It's not so much of JUDGING their lives...but surely if someone is having a terrible marriage, it is terrible..nothing less, nothing more.

Am I making sense? :)

Keshi.

Keshi said...

**so "let's play it safe honey....you live in Chicago and I live in New York!"

hahaha Sol!

ok I so get it now :)

Keshi.

Keshi said...

Totally agree with Jono..thats the number one fact for me too!

Keshi.

Unknown said...

well... assume presume all are the same...
A wise person seldom uses assumptions to fill in the blanks. ie. questions arising of curiosity for which u do not have an answer, because its none of ur business in the first place.

"OMG! She is marrying THAT guy. He is so ugly."

"OMG! A divorcee!! Is he desperate to marry HER?"

"She is a housewife!? Must be lazy."

Again.. none of my business.. so I'd rather not make any such statements...

Solitaire said...

@ J,

Yep...

There could be a nagging wife waiting at home saying, "Where are you honey? Its already 8 pm. Get your butt her NOW!"

OR

An irritated husband saying, "I have no space in the closet!! You took up all the space to put your Manolo Blahniks!"

Ankur said...

@Sneha

yes.... pyar ki bhasha samjho.. yahi hai marriage ki kahani!!! :)

jisne nahi samjhi woh karega badjubani!! :)

wah wah!! :D

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi and Iceman,

I think we all have opinions about everything...some are strong, some not so strong. It is not necessary that we all have experienced every one of those situations.

It is a presumption that most of us will get married one day. So it is hard for me to believe that we don't have any idea about what the worst and best things about marriage could be.

You are making sense Keshi.

Keshi said...

Lets be honest. Its better to be single than being stuck in shitful marriage!

:)

Keshi.

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

The question is..

"where is the pyar"?

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi,

That's what Ashu has said in her latest post too!

Keshi said...

I agree Sol. I mean its OK to make statements and opinions abt others n their lives. There's no way we can avoid that once we r born into this world!

Keshi.

Ankur said...

@Keshi

Marriage is like any other institution u believe in, just how much one can give and ready to appreciate others with tiny miny adjustments.... n it works!!!

Its beautiful and i want to be a part of this institution!! :)

Unknown said...

keshi...

that bounced over... :|

Ankur said...

@Sneha

pyar kahan hai yeh bahut bada sawal hai, u have to find it in small things which can make u happy...

Marriage is something where (as per me) 2 ppl agree to live together till the end of their lives... To search love is very difficult but to give love and then think of being loved is easier!!! :)

Solitaire said...

Marriage is an institution where a man loses his bachelor's degree and a woman gains a master's degree.

:)

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

"......to think of being loved is easier..."

Be careful..sochte reh jaoge.

Keshi said...

I meant

'in A shitful Marraige'.

:)
Keshi.

Ankur said...

@Sneha

Agreed.. it its abt been Master i dont have any problems, but as far as me is concerned, i know its a name of reciprocation, may it be trust, love or making u happy!!!!

Every relationship has a give and take, there arent any relationships where u dont care for the taking part, no exceptions even, or atleast u expect!!!

Keshi said...

lol Ankur ur saying that to me as if I hated Marriage. I was only answering Sol's qn in this post. :) Im not for or against Marriage.

Keshi.

Keshi said...

Iceman (Zebraman) wut d u mean? :)

Keshi.

Ankur said...

@Sneha

u know, sochne ko bahut kuch hai, magar bura sochne se acha hai ki acha socho...

Its easy to feel dejected, not loved, hated... but feeling being in love makes u happy!!!

so mai toh sochoonga!! :)

maverick said...

dont wnt to have any pre conceived notions on it..will let u knw once i experience them :)

Solitaire said...

@ Maverick,

UFf! And when will that be? Hopefully this blog is alive and kicking till then.

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Ok then think hard...
Meanwhile, I will go DO something about it.

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi,

Its funny how people think that saying one thing bad about marriage means you are totally against it!!

No no no people!!

Everything has its good and bad! Life is not a fairy tale!

Ankur said...

@Sneha & @Keshi

no no no... i dont say that sayin one bad thing means u r against marriage, as u said one thing i replied to the same!!
:)

Keshi.

Keshi said...

Amen Sol!

I cant u'stand why ppl r so scared to say something so honest. I mean life is both good and bad. And like u said it's not a fairytale!

Some marriages work..some fail..
Some ppl live longer..some die young..
Some eggs r good..some r rotten...
Some trees flower..some dont

cmon guys be a sport and contribute to this great post w.o. sounding like Sol asked u to make JUDGEMENTS abt a particular marriage. :) We r talkin here in GENERAL sense! And no, thats not sin for godssakes!

Keshi.

Ankur said...

@Sneha & @Keshi

and exactly.. its not a fairytale!!

so we have happy moments and we have some not so happy...
and by sayin that u need to find love in there, it means that loving those not so happy!! :D

btw.. i m not into it, looks like all the blame is put on my shoulders for sayin its an institution!!

Keshi said...

And some MEN here, plz stop trying to sound so PERFECT. Cos we know ur not perfect.

lol!

I am married and I think the worst the thing about marriage is you can never have the 'I dont care' attitude. You will start caring each and everything and unknowingly forget that there was a time you used to think 'Oh forget! I dont care man!' ....hehe....

Solitaire said...

@ SS,

AHA!! Here comes the humor!

AWESOME answer!

:)

Solitaire said...

@ A liberated soul,

Yeah!! Something like Keshi said.

If you have not taken your birth control pill while not married, its fine...but you can't really say that when you are married!!!!

:)

Thank you "married person" for coming in with your words of wisdom.

The "not married people" have been shooting daggers.

Keshi said...

SS good one! :)

Liberated Soul ty for bringing that out here.

** the worst the thing about marriage is you can never have the 'I dont care' attitude

Cos tho some of us who commented here before r single, we all mentioned that one. And Im glad we ASSUMED that one, cos it seems to be Right!

Keshi.

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Are you saying that love is not required in a marriage?

I agree its an institution. I also told you the definition.

Solitaire said...

Who deleted what comment?

Ankur said...

@Sneha

baato par na jaoo... apni akal ladao!!!
:P

by no means i ever said, sayin or will say that love is not require in a marriage...
but its not a pre requisite!!! :)

Keshi said...

Ankur nah we r not blaming u mate. Just discussing.

**and exactly.. its not a fairytale!!

Yes ur right! Then why not tell us abt the Horrors of marriage? LOL!

Keshi.

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

So are you saying that love is not required prior to marriage but required after marriage?

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Tell us what is NOT so fairy tale like about marriage...please!

Ankur said...

@Sneha

looks like my bad day!!

Vishesh said...

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Your wife will say...

"the worst thing about being married to ankur is that he abandons discussions and debates midway"

Solitaire said...

@ Vishesh,

Surely you mean you are yet to know?

Ankur said...

@Sneha

u r forcing me into it !! :P

i m bad at debates, coz then i go deep down into it!!

but for my wifey sake... i m continuing!!! :D

Ankur said...

@Sneha

**So are you saying that love is not required prior to marriage but required after marriage?

thats sheer assumption!!!
making an ass out of u is ok... but me.. no!! :D
leave me!! ;)

Ankur said...

@Keshi

*Yes ur right! Then why not tell us abt the Horrors of marriage? LOL!

but then wat i say was that it makes u vulnerable... with responsibilites!!!

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

HELLO? Assumption?
Read what you wrote...

"by no means i ever said, sayin or will say that love is not require in a marriage...
but its not a pre requisite!!! :)"

I merely paraphrased it.

Can you please explain what that means for I think you have no idea what it means either!!!

Ankur said...

@Sneha

**Tell us what is NOT so fairy tale like about marriage...please!

have u ever heard of someone dyin in a fairytale... it just ends with the happy forever thing!!!

but here... ppl die in reality!! :)

Ankur said...

@Sneha

**So are you saying that love is not required prior to marriage but required after marriage?

I said
"by no means i ever said, sayin or will say that love is not require in a marriage...
but its not a pre requisite!!! :)"

now how did u read that its not required prior to marriage... does pre requisite and not required sounds the same for you!!! :P

Hemanth Potluri said...

wow..Keshi i agree with u totally..

i am not still certified to ans the question :)...

urs..hemu..

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

People die regardless of their marital status. Has nothing to do with marriage.

And as for synonyms.

YES!

Prerequisite to marriage DOES mean prior to marriage.

GOSH! I cannot believe that I have to teach YOU the meaning of YOUR words.

Keshi said...

Sol u asked the same qn I asked Ankur! Tell us abt the horrors of marriage. :)

**"the worst thing about being married to ankur is that he abandons discussions and debates midway"

LOL! Sol always nails em all down pretty soon ha.

Ankur everything in life is abt TALKING em over. If we cant openly talk abt certain things in the first place w.o. thinking its taboo, even a Marriage can fail. so TALK TALK TALK :)

Keshi.

Ankur said...

ok now worse of marriage...

1 husband wife arguments on which shirt to wear!!

2 Y not Shaved??

3 y that pink saaree, y not aqua??

4 oh god, same breakfast again!!

@ Hemu,

You are not certified and yet you answered by agreeing with Keshi. :)

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Finally the humor bug bit you.

Ankur said...

@Sneha

**Prerequisite to marriage DOES mean prior to marriage

correct urself Sol, it means pre condition!!!
not prior...

plzzzz... check ur vocab yaar!! lolzzzz

Ankur said...

@Sol

hahah
u bit me hard!! lolzz

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

People in glass houses should not throw stones.

A precondition means a condition before the event occurs.
In this case, marriage is the event and therefore my argument holds true.

Cяystal said...

Listen,I'm not married,nor do I want to.:D
Why?

-Jhelo-fying his entire family, its like not marrying the guy you love, but his whole family.(it'd be a sigh of relief if we live seperately)

-You can't flirt around..you just have to get drowned in the person-you-married's eyes..look at him only,or be ready fr all his dirty look *sigh*

-I agree with Keshi on the thired point completely. And its like a "sone parr suhaga thing" if you get into an arrange marriage..and that person..he is an UH...!()*&*&*^@!

-You have to do everything with himm..get his permission even if you want to hang out with yr girlfriends n stuff, and if you're going out with yr age old "bfs"..then the conditions with him are no better than HELL.lol

-And lastly..BIRTH CONTROL,grosses me out :D

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Main teri dushman, tu mera dushman.
Main nagin, tu sapera!

Ankur said...

yes... how true... so now u realize!! :P

so now read the whole...

A precondition means a condition before the event occurs.
In this case, marriage is the event and therefore my argument holds true.

not at all...

i said its not a prerequisite, which in simple english means its not necessary to fall in love before marriage!!

Simple...
and even we have glass houses, we change the dress with lights on!! :D

Ankur said...

@Sol

cant be true...
coz hum dost hai ;)

and tu nagin mai naag!! :P

Solitaire said...

@ Aayushi,

WHAT! You don't need to take your husband's "permission" to meet your friends. He does not own you! He is only married to you. Its like you choose your roommate for life! ;)

In laws part..yaaaaaaaaaaa! Agree with you totally!

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

So ultimately you said the same thing as what I said....

Oh gosh! You wasted so much time and energy in doing all this instead of simply saying..yes, you are right.

The worst thing about being married to Ankur is "he beats around the bush"...this is also what your wife will say.

Ankur said...

if my wifey says...

**The worst thing about being married to Ankur is "he beats around the bush"...this is also what your wife will say.

Am not married yet... Hmmm would have loved to know all the good and rights about marriage before we discuss the worsts... but still the post demands something else :)

I think the worst is loss of individuality...

Although on the positive side, I think the individual just grows and gets better in a relationship :)

no freedom

no flirting

..... make do with mood swings...while handling yur own mood swings :D

thinking twice b4 bitchng abt the family :d

and the list goes on...

the fact that u can't just get up, pack ur bags and go off gallivanting bcoz u feel like it. be it travel or work... u at least need to inform the other half... and maybe *not mandatory, tho* have a reason for wanting to scoot off as well!

Well, I think people have to cut on time with their friends when they get married....

@keshi:
i love my MIL. so far, at least. it's like i have 2 mothers! which, at times, does get a little stifling. :0)
on the other hand, my mom's MIL was really really evil. so there!
i guess it's something individual. depends on whether she's cut the umbilical cord *or is willing to*. also depends on how ur hubby manages situations.

Umm.. something like the fact that a married person might not be able to answer freely to a post/question like this :D

WORST thing bout marriage wud be .

hmmm

a lady in ur house..and tat too the same everyday..

hehehe..

many more troubles like..

**leave sports and listen to office gossips**

**shopping with them**(this is worst)..

**forget the date of ur first kiss and u will have answer this questions" u dont love me anymore??"..**

**full stop on FLIRTING**

inshort marriage and smoking has similarities..

men knows both r injurious for health..but still they do it..

Wat abt my 'saree' post? Do u think that might qualify here?

But seriously, sometimes I might just wanna be an individual and not part of a pair. I might just wanna be left alone with no one to disturb me. I mean for a short time, an hour or so. But then cant really leave biwi and go someplace. Sometimes its possible, but sometimes it isnt!!

Vrijilesh Rai said...

Now trying to be a bit naughty.. how about not being able to watch porn freely?

Hiren said...

hmmm ... no experience ... so here is my assumption ...

worst thing for guys would be losing their freedom ... not in real sense but definitely certain things like coming late to home at nights whenever you want; just staying over at any friends place for night without even thinking twice; skipping dinner at home frequently etc etc ... (and somehow I have seen many of my friends have to compromise on playing cricket during weekends too :) ...)

as said earlier; this doesnt mean that the guy loses his entire freedom or something like that ...

**You Can't Read A Book Peacefully...
**You've To Go To The Most Boring Places On Earth... i.e. Shoppin' Malls.. n' Spend Elongated Hours Of Torture...

Apart From These... EveryThin' Is Makkhan....

@ Am in Trance,

Why can't you have a beer every evening? One beer a day is good for your kidneys! I will definitely encourage my husband to drink one and sit down with him and have my own too!

Why can't you attend parties now and then? I would love to party at least one day on the weekend!

Why can't you read a book peacefully? I will kill my husband if he does not let me read my books and will also not choose a husband who does not read books himself!

Hours in the shopping mall? You can do that in the electronics section and she in the clothes and all will be well! :)

Solitaire said...

@ Joie,

Thanks for your input but this is not about whether a live in is better or a marriage. If in case, you do get married, then what would be the worst part?

Solitaire said...

@ Aneesh,

Everything has a best and a worst..it all cannot be rosy unless you are in a hindi movie or a fairy tale.

Solitaire said...

@ Rahul,

True, true, true, and true!

@ Ashu,

What if it's the right person? Why are you assuming that everyone gets married to the wrong person and gets stuck?

Really interesting discussion...read thru all the comments and really liked Soham's

*You can't get out of the bed from both the ends if u wake up early !!*
and to add to it....then you can blame the side you are sleeping for all your bad moods....

and the worst thing I feel is understanding that you are or have to be now half of the ONE you were and not TWO....very rarely can you sustain the ONE and be in a marriage...but its possible.

APOO said...

The worst thing about marriage is finding the right one.... and having to say, "sorry, I am married!"

Keshi said...

Mate, gosh ur over-positive abt marriage LOL!

cmon now, the qn was

Solitaire said...

@ I walk alone,

I think you are as confused as comfortably numb is.

Solitaire said...

@ Vrij,

You sound like a typical man from "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus". I read in that book that men like to go in a cave once in a while and they should not be disturbed when in that cave. Looks like you are talking about that!

Yes, saree post can count. In fact, would love it to count since everyone is getting really serious over here. Its nice to get married people's inputs.

And why do you still want to watch porn? UFFO! Boys will be boys!

Solitaire said...

@ Nirmal,

Why don't you go ahead and marry a gentleman then?

Hey bhagwaan....kya kya notions hai.

Solitaire said...

@ Urv,

The best part is that all the married people seem to be having fun while the unmarried people are arguing! Funny!

Solitaire said...

@ Sam,

OH! So you mean you are kinda bound. :(

Solitaire said...

@ Lukky,

What a great point!!!! Never thought about it that way! I think this thought does not even occur to men. They are busy talking about how its going to be hard to watch porn!

***rolling eyes***

Solitaire said...

@ Humble,

Thanks!!

I know how much you like to boast about cooking after reading your recent post. That makes you an eligible bachelor. You know that right?

Solitaire said...

@ Anonymous,

How about,

Man: Dear..
Woman: Mmm?
Man: Can you cook tonight?
Woman: Sure.
Man: I invited 20 people over from work.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solitaire said...

@ Veens,

Are you ready?

Solitaire said...

@ Satish,

Hahahahahaha!! Yaha par bhi icecream!

Solitaire said...

@ Rayshma,

But that happens when we live with our parents too right?

Solitaire said...

@ Friendly,

I think when men get married they have to make sure that their wives get along..otherwise they might be doomed!

Solitaire said...

@ Apoo,

That would suck!!!!!
