yikes.. never easy...!!

my recommendation
ARYAN
it's got strength, pizzazz, charisma and yet comes across softly.

Now the next bit I picked up from WIKIPEDIA!
It is an ancient Sanskrit term for Hindus, Zoroastrians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains. The term has a variety of positive meanings, usually in spiritual contexts.

Sanskrit aryá- is an adjective meaning "kind", "favorable", or "devoted". In nominalized usage, it can take a meaning of "master, lord". The vrddhi derivation ārya-' means "respectable", "honorable", "noble", and "belonging to the brahmin, kṣatriya, or vaiśya varṇas.". As a noun, ārya- means "an honorable or respectable man", "a master", "an owner", "a member of the three highest varṇas".

We go around seaarching for exotic names nowadays.... but end up with simple ones :-)

DreamCatcher said...

His name shouldn't be Pragati!!

In the past when I was searching for a Job...then most of the Interviewer expected that a girl wud come for an interview!!
And his name shudn't be Rahul..In India at any colony u will get a lot of Rahul's.. :-)
and also shudn't be Abhishek as in my class there were 6 Abhishek starting from Roll No. 1 to Roll No. 6.. ;-)

or, vallabh? means some1 that is most dear 2 u :-)

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

Thanks!

In the US, people might expect a blue eyed, brown haired guy when they hear a neil and may be disappointed to see a brown kid with black hair! :D

My best friend named her son Neel. Let's see what his plight will be.

Solitaire said...

@ anonymous,

AKbond?

Why not Do-bond?

Sorry that was lame.. :D

Solitaire said...

@ Sourish,

I have to ask you this. Do people pronounce your name as

SAW-RISH or SAU-RISH?

ceedy said...

Hehe

Interesting...yeah...it could be a Surprise but at the same time its easy for such a name to be pronounced here...and it has its roots in both cultures...so everyone is happy :) my friend names his kid this but the last name gives it off that he is an Indian - Shah

and yeah...about the plight - I guess Kevin aka KP will be the best person to describe that as he might have surprised many...

best of luck to this frined of yours though :)

I'll try 2 be truthful said...

raj

reason : when he grows up , all girly names match with raj , not to mention the hero of most yashraj flicks is 'raj' , so he"ll be thanking his parents like anything . nt only tht even archies has introduced a nu character called 'raj'

anyways whats in a name ? what matters is the type of person he"ll grow up to be .

AmitL said...

Hi,Sol-how about:

Darpan: A Mirror
Gaurav: Glory

(For more suggestions,try:http://www.iloveindia.com/babynames/baby-boy-names.html)

On the lighter side:

Of course,if they want the traditional Indian names,there's Damodar(Lord Ganesh),Champaklal(Red Flower),Bhailalbhai(Brother Red Brother),etc.

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

You know what can happen with a Shah? They may think it is misspelled and actually a SHAW!!

I had a friend named Kanwardeep who changed his name to Kevin in the US! I wonder how KP got his name.

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi,

Raashi? How will I know that before the baby is born?

Solitaire said...

@ Dreamcatcher,

My sympathies are with you. You are the first boy I know who is known as Pragati. I wonder if many people called you for an interview in the first place because they thought you were a woman!!

For now, I will stick with calling you dreamcatcher.

SMM said...

Arjun means white. It refers to the whiteness of dawn, milk, silver and lighting. Also the name of the 3rd pandav - the one who only saw the eye of the bird when asked to take aim by his guru. Also the name of my husband :)

Well I generally like unusual names. I love my dad's name - Jishnu meaning "Leader of the Celestial Host", a title of Indra, who, in the War of the Gods with the Asuras, led the "host of devas". He is the "Michael, the leader of the Archangels" of India.

I'll try 2 be truthful said...

Vrijilesh Rai said...

Hey.. this one is gonna be useful to me soon enuf :)

Cud u have another post for girl's names too? We in India are not allowed to find out if its a girl or a boy..

Raghu Iyer said...

be an indian, Sneha i think you must give the nakshatra (Star) in which the baby boy is born and the "letters/alphabets" that are to be used for naming...

do the words "is having a baby boy" mean "the baby is yet to be born"? or the baby is born but waiting for the "naming ceremony"?

as such the baby boy seems average, so better to give him a name of sun "aditya"...pronounced as "aaditya"...

Anonymous said...

Hey
What did you think of the names I suggested? :P

Anonymous said...

@Ankur
Yes, thats right. Gogol is from the Namesake.

Stupidosaur said...

@ankur

Ankur, I can understand one. But so many? Isn't true love alive anywhere these days?:P

(Dost mazaak kar raha hoon. If sol actually publishes this and you feel offended, I ll delete if you say. Khush?)

Stupidosaur said...

Hmm so people have already suggested my psteupedonym. Wonder if by the time everyone has finished commenting my actual name will appear or not.

Reenam! Very unique!

thanks!

Solitaire said...

@ Stupid,

UFFFO!! You and Ankur at this again? Sahi hai!! I guess he has not responded to you though.

BTW, Ankur said
All girls love Rahul

Then he said I love stupid

I am a girl. Therefore I love Rahul. But if I love stupid, Rahul must be stupid.

Since SRK has his name as Rahul in every movie, SRK is Stupid!

Wooo hooooooooooooooooooooo!

Solitaire said...

@ CG,

GOGOL!!! He might turn out like Kal Penn...the angry young man!

Solitaire said...

@ Raghu,

****be an indian, Sneha i think you must give the nakshatra (Star) in which the baby boy is born and the "letters/alphabets" that are to be used for naming...

Be an INFORMED Indian Raghu. Yes, the baby is yet to be born. And whether or not the parents believe in Nakshatra is a major point. Just because you do, does not mean they do.

***as such the baby boy seems average, so better to give him a name of sun "aditya"...pronounced as "aaditya"...

What the hell does "seems average" mean?

Solitaire said...

@ Vrij,

Haha!! "Soon enough" means what?? Do we hear you sharing some good news indirectly in the near future or far future? Yes, I can have one for girls' names when something is confirmed from your end! :)

Solitaire said...

@ Sahefa,

I do too! Sounds majestic!

Solitaire said...

@ I'll try to be truthful,

Good for you!! Now for some baby boy names? ;)

Solitaire said...

@ SMM,

Your husband's name is very popular around here and in real life too! :)

You seem to be surrounded by great mythological characters!

Solitaire said...

@ Iceman,

Changu-mangu sounds more like twin boys because of media's portrayal of changus and mangus in the past.

Maybe you can name them seeta and geeta. What say?

Solitaire said...

@ Ash,

Kabir..hmmmmm....nice. I have read Kabir's poems.

Solitaire said...

@ Pavi,

Very nice names!!! You sure you wanted to share them?

Solitaire said...

@ Mamta,

OM is great!!

Solitaire said...

@ Chriz,

Yes..your name is sweet..short and sweet. :)

Solitaire said...

@ Daydreamer,

Prithviraj!! Baap re..bhari bharkham hai!

Solitaire said...

@ Dreamcatcher,

:(

I am sure that was embarrassing.

Vikas Patel is ok but initials VP are great!

Solitaire said...

@ Keshi,

I think Stupid was influenced by short and sweet and so went for SWEETISH instead of Sourish! :)

I like Akash too. It's Aamir Khan's name in DCH! :)

Did check out the doc's pics. I think I will probably have lots more to check out today since I have been offline for days now.

Solitaire said...

@ Neeku,

Vedant!!! Sounds very elderly.

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

yes..I think she got confused.

Solitaire said...

@ Neeku,

Dhruv is a nice name but do you think americans can pronounce it?

Solitaire said...

@ Priya,

aniket is nice! Why the H in it though?

Solitaire said...

@ Stupid,

Neha is so common these days..besides it reminds me of horses neighing! :D

Solitaire said...

@ KI,

I guess everyone will want to name their kid ABHINAV these days after the Olympics! He is truly the new ARJUN!

Solitaire said...

@ Anonymous,

Rajiv, Amit, Sumit...all nice and America-friendly!

Solitaire said...

@ AmitL,

Gaurav is nice!!

Champaklal patel? EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKS!

@ Ankur,

If SRK is STUPID and if I hate SRK, then I hate STUPID too.

So how did you conclude that I love Stupid?

Anonymous said...

Arrrree...what about the first name I suggested....Nikhil??

(which was Gogol's 'good name'..but I didn't suggest it because of that. Actually, Nikhil came to me first...and then it reminded me of Gogol..LOL..ok, I'll shut up now)

Ankur said...

i didnt conclude, coz i was sure that u dont, par woh kehte hai na... wanted to hear it from horses (in this case u!! :P )mouth!! :D
hehehe

Cheers!!!

Vrijilesh Rai said...

He/She is gonna see the world in Oct 2nd week.. and as I said earlier, revealing sex of the baby before birth is illegal in India.. so we'd know only when we see :)

ceedy said...

Thandi hawa from HDDCS is one but the one I like is sameer from DCH....

and since he is a Patel - eventually he will have a Motel so why not call him Motel - meaning the patel american dream ;)

he will then be Motel Patel...and if the dads name starts from S - chances are they can have multiple of em...and he will be Motel S Patel

Stupidosaur said...

@ankur,

Tonight you better stand upside-down on your head.

Issey ankur ulta ho jayega. Further blood supply to your brain will surge. So you will realise that ankur ka ulta toh rukna hai!

And thats what you need to do:
STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stupidosaur said...

Ankur do not get too happy that you succeeded in making sol say
//If SRK is STUPID and if I hate SRK, then I hate STUPID too.

I presume that you understand a pinch of logic at least.

One of the necessary preconditions here is SRK should be STUPID.

So necessary condition is
SRK=Stupid

or Stupid=SRK

SRK is not stupid. A talentless person can't become so successful
if he were stupid.

So that is ruled out.

Further Stupid ain't suc(k)h a superstar.

So in absence of the precondition, the implied premise can't be true.

So Stupid can only dream on that he's SRK, and you can only dream on that Sol hates me.

So chal beta, SRK.
(SRK is a hindi word which translates to a polite vut loaded 'Get Lost')

(Sol you may not publish this if you don't want to, if thats gonna end this UFFO thing. (Perhaps UFFO will be what they will call Ankur if they see him floating around in space))

(Or if its fun to you too, go ahead publish it me an ankur are enjoying it I think, right ankur?)

Stupidosaur said...

@sol

But still I like the name Neha

Stupidosaur said...

/coz nothing is forever, only change is!!

Kya khak forever hai change.
Conductor har roz le leta hai mere pas se.

//dekha nahi kaise meri cheez itni jaldi teri ho gayi!! ;)

Aha now I know tu inta mota kyon ho gaya. Itni saari cheez jo khata tha. Chal lets co author a book

"Who moved my cheez."

We will make it even more ridiculous than the original one. I know, together we can!

ankur, you are a real confused fellow
//ok, looks like sol wants me to respond to her love!! ;)

First you say sol loves me, which implies perhaps I should respond to her love.

Now you say sol wan't you to respond to her love.

Lets use a simple principle of mathematics. (Not a theory, just a principle of may own based on how I once made a simple mistake and proved

x = tan y and x = cot y
so tan y = cot y)

If two contradictory things appear to be simultaneously true, it definitely means we made as mistake somewhere in the previous steps.

So probably sol loves neither you nor me, but somone else. Or maybe none as of now.

On a side note,
Hey ankur, jab daanon pe paani girta hai toh unmein ankur ->foottey<- hain. How do you stay safe in the rains man?

ceedy said...

@vrij

@CG

Gogols first name is Nikolai - very close to Nikhil so its one and the same thing ;)....

and why not some desi twist..how about Rabindranath or gujju writers like Tarek or Kanahiyalal

Anonymous said...

@Ceedy
Yes, I know Gogol's first name is Nikolai. I was just saying that when I thought of names to suggest Solitaire, Nikhil came to me first...which then reminded me of Gogol.

Anonymous said...

@Stupidosaur

Codorkgh!!

Solitaire said...

@ CG,

Nikhil reminds me of this sleazy guy at my uni who used to hit on every girl possible.

Solitaire said...

@ ankur,

If Aamir Khan leaves his wife for another woman, it is not stupid..it only means that he will be willing to leave his present wife for me!!

Solitaire said...

@ Vrij,

KEWL!! I will definitely put up a post for a baby girl then!! Congrats!

Solitaire said...

@ Ceedy,

Haha! And then eventually he will be nicked as POTEL!

Solitaire said...

@ Stupid,

Haha! Like your reasoning! What I like even better is your nonchalant statement that says SRK is talentless!

Stupidosaur said...

Ah Sol is Amirikhan so she likes Amir Khan eh?

Stupidosaur said...

SRK?
Let me add:
He is so fake!

interestingly my name - ARJUN - is the result of a marital compromise brokered by my late grandfather!

My Dad is ARUN and my mom is RITU

So dad wanted to call me ARUN Jr. (american style). Mom would hear nothing of it.

So my Dada mediated by doin the following
A - arun
R - Ritu
JUN - Junior!!

Hence Arjun!!
