Break Up?
Do you think that once an engagement breaks up, the couple should return the presents/cash that they received at the event to the givers?

here comes a damn good one!!!!! this is worth a lot of debate, i suppose.
Then why dont you start with your answer Satish?
yes... unless the other one really wants you to have it...
Depends on the situation I guess.. If a guy has spent half of his savings on a solid rock.. and the girl changes her mind for some reason, wouldnt it be fair to return the ROCK ? ;-)
Guys!! I am talking about the gifts that the guests brought to the ceremony....
Oops !! My bad ! Read between the lines.. In that case, I would say, YES ! for sure.. It might be embarassing to contact people and send it back. But i think it would be good etiquette to return it since the intention with which they gave it is no longer Valid ! What do you think ?
No. They should keep it. Why return the gifts/presents?
Had I been in this situation I wouldn't have returned the gifts to the guests.
Why wouldn't I?
Errr... I dunno!
p.s.: Thanks for dropping by my blog.
its a gud thing to return thm back .. though its a hell lot of a job ..
or divide equally among d guy n d gal
lol!!!
NO, if they are nice and expensive!!
Yes, if they are cheap and rotten.
lol!!
dont cross question me on that.
i'm just kidding.
ps--oh u meant the guests' gifts. frankly, one should never return gifts unless it was totally uncalled for AND very expensive or sumtin. So, yeah, dont return the gifts.
my question is why do we have to get/give gifts...isnt giving our lives and souls to each other the biggest gift one can give....
@ Mystic River..yes I agree with you..provided that it is in returnable condition!
@ Clouds, Ok tell me when you are sure..and hopefully this does not happen in real life!
@ Anuj, divide equally?..I think returning them would be less of an hassle.
@ Lost Weasley, I once had a cousin who got engaged three times and called it off all the three times. All the guests were finally fed up and swore that if he got engaged again, he would not get any presents. (un)luckily, he did not.
@ Ceedy, I am talking about the gifts from the guests. I hope they are not giving their lives and souls to the betrothed couple.
People gift a couple wishing them well and happiness together. If they are not together, the right thing to do ..is definety to return the gifts!
Also, wouldn't that be an easier way to let people know.
Of course...this is the ideal situation..I'm not sure, how easy it is to actually do!
my view is to better return the gifts. but it might degrade the relatives too. so give it some thought b4 doing so
'you once had a cousin'....lol...
anyway, i suppose he should have mentioned in his subsequent engagements 'no gifts please'. thats the decent thing to do. you're not getting married to receive all the gifts are you? then if the guests still brought him gifts, he should have kept them.
@ Pavi, yes, I do not know how practical the situation is. But I agree, that would be the ideal thing to do.
@ Satish, if they had relatives like mine, I bet you they would be happy to have them back!
@ Lost Weasley, yes literally! He has been abandoned by the family now and no one knows what he is upto.
oops wrong answer...but I still am against the ideas anyways - of receiving anything from anyone....
lolz no...i aint giving them away :P
well i don't think so. just because when somebody breaks of an engagement they are usually down with their mood and not in a position to go back and return them.I doubt whether they would even use those presents and gifts.
Yes
hmmmm depends.
