Marriage?

A quote I read yesterday.

“Half a psychiatrist's patients see him because they are married -- the other half because they're not.”

Your take?

where do who were married stand...

@ Ceedy, want me to give you the funny answer or the serious answer?

ceedy said...

will be glad to get both - but today would opt for serious....

Depends on how the "Were married" feel. If they are relieved its over, they were in the first category. If they are lonely now then they are in the second category.

married or not... either way u'r screwed!

and even a psychiatrist can't do anything about it!

should be true...for most people .. the grass is alwez greener on the other side rite???

so if one is married they can just see the positives of being single n vice versa!

The saying about the "Shaadi ka laddoo" says it all ;)

BTW, aren't the "were married" in a sorrier state than the other two?

Unmarried people think marriage is the solution to their major problems (read loneliness)... While, married people think marriage is the source of their major problems..

the grass on the other sid eis certainly greener...bt rite now..i dnt wanna gt into the other side (the married side ie)

n btw, watz ur take on this??

p.s: ur answer for this would be repeated by me to others by quoting a 'well known pshychologist'... :)

I guess my take would be. Be it married or not. There are still problems. And when you can't handle them. You will need some assistance.;)

Marriage is like a cage. You find the birds outside desperate to get in, and the ones inside desperate to get out!

This statement is delusive..
The statement is put up in an incorrect way... half of his customers who are unmarried can be group of children, teenagers, and new employees.. who are unmarried and who generally don't have a lot of patience to cope up with the situation and adapt to the new environment.. and then moving to latter half a big chunk of people who have mental issues are married people.. so well said .. but perceived wrongly ..
take care.. have a nice day ahead

@ Carolinagal, :)

@ Iceman, a psychiatrist can make money out of it. :)

@ Pavi, yup!

@ goofball, why would the "were married" be in a sorrier state. I am sure that they thought their marriage was a sorry state and feel better in some ways about not being married anymore, at least to that person.

Solitaire said...

@ Chakoli, :)

@ Keshi, you wrote about marriage too? I think you are right about the mental clock!

@ Aarti, hmmm..let me know what conclusion you came to about yourself. Most people here are just like you..never been anywhere close to a shrink's office.

@ Swati, kya karein ya na karein, yeh kaisi mushkil haay!

Solitaire said...

@ Preeti, ahem!! If that is the consequence, I will gladly answer your question.
*scratching my head*
Nothing comes to my mind other than what people already said,
"Grass is greener on the other side"! Right now you don't want to be on the other side because you think you are on the greener side..sigh!!!

@ Sweetsticky, good answer!!

Solitaire said...

@ KP, yup yup! We have it the best!

@ Sam, what is the first part of your sentence? Is it english?

@ Cosmic, sigh! Do you also feel like that?

@ Big Omi, maybe you are right. But let's just enjoy the statement without analyzing it too much!

Solitaire said...

@ Rayshma, and then they say, khake pachtana zyada accha hai.

@ d sinner, :)))

@ Arun, either ways, everyone is apparently sad.

@ Nabeel, and wants a psychiatrist to help them with that!

@ Vandita, :)

aneri_masi said...

well, I said the "were married" might be in a sorrier state, because they are neither here, nor there, and a failed marriage is usually a major setback in life. Considered as a big stigma in some stratas of society, feels like a big personal failure as well, they feel like, am I not a good person?
They fall into the "not married" category, with chances of being married shot down considerably.

Cosmic Joy said...

Too many sighs coming from solitaire :) As for the birds comments .. it was a general observation.

Solitaire said...

@ Aneri, I am not sure if that is always how the "were married" people feel. Its very sad that people still look down upon them. I guess enough has been said for and against them on psychobabble. Were you a reader of my blog then?

@ Cosmic, what to do? I need to see a psychiatrist because I want to be married to Aamir Khan. :)
Hence, the sighs!

what if marriage is not the issue at all?

what if the issue is like being raped and trying to get over it kinds?

that has nothing o do with marriage right?

but the quote was funny!

According to some reports I have googled, the percentage of people that are married in the US of A remains close to 65%.

It seems quite a plausible number.

Now if visiting a psychiatrist were based on marriage alone, the percentages would have closely matched. However, they do not (50% according to the statement).

So it seems that marriage has only a partial role in determining a visit to the psychiatrist. A lot of other factors are involved too.

P.S. This is no serious assessment. :D

50/50 ...hemmm 50% of the ppl needs divorce....the other 50% are gay.
